I put the torrc from the Tor Browser Bundle install into the Roaming folder, and that got the tor.exe to start using the folder it's supposed to. I already use Tails sometimes, but that's too much for this use case. I really wish there was an easier way to do this, because opening the news links in a regular browser would probably be a bad idea. I'm starting to get a feeling that I have to choose between the Expert Bundle, or leaving the Tor Browser running 24/7 (which I can't do).

In QuietRSS's settings, you can set a browser to open links that you click on in QuietRSS, which will be the Tor Browser.

I want to be able to use that tor.exe, to pull RSS feeds through Tor. So I need to use the one provided by the Tor Browser Bundle. If I were to install the Expert Bundle and Tor Browser Bundle, then I'd imagine the tor.exe would conflict. If I launch the Tor Browser, it uses the stuff in the Tor Browser\Browser\TorBrowser\Data\Tor folder, I think. When launching tor.exe by itself, it creates a folder in Roaming, so it's like it's trying to behave like the Expert Bundle if launched by itself, I think. I've read over all of that, and I still don't know if what I'm doing is right, or if it can be done at all. How can I use tor.exe as a proxy for QuietRSS, while not conflicting with the Tor Browser, like if I have QuietRSS set to open RSS links with the Tor Browser? I know that the easy solution would be "Just run the Tor Browser 24/7 omg noob", but I'm poor and this compoopter is all I got. I figured that the Tor Browser Bundle would configure torrc for me, but because it used the original port, 9050, I don't think that's the case?Īnything I've found online seems to be outdated, or no longer supported. The documentation for all the settings for the torrc and such is kinda overwhelming for me at the moment, and all I want is to pull RSS feeds anonymously with QuietRSS. I closed it's process, because I'm pretty sure I don't know what I'm doing. I double-clicked the tor.exe and nothing happened visually, but I noticed it was running, and I had to use the port 9050. However, I don't have much RAM, and so I need a way to run just the Tor/Expert Bundle part of the Tor Browser Bundle. I have QuietRSS, and I've found that I can launch the Tor Browser and use the port 9150 as a proxy to pull RSS feeds. r/tor is not managed or endorsed by The Tor Project. /r/Namecoin – Namecoin, decentralized DNS./r/i2p – The Invisible Internet Project, anonymity system with similarities to Tor./r/PrivacyGuides – Helping you protect your data./r/privacy – privacy and freedom in the information age./r/netsec – security news and discussion./r/tails – the Tails operating system helps preserve anonymity./r/onions – all about Tor's hidden services.Tor Stack Exchange - question and answer site (blocks Tor).Donate - Your support is critical to the Tor Project's success.Community portal - Join the Tor Community.Tor's support portal with frequently asked questions. Please read the Tor Project FAQ for more information.
